They can also develop in adults because of infections and other heart conditions later in life. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Common heart valve abnormalities include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Regurgitation<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">This occurs when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/heart-valve-disease\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20353727\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s3\">valve bulges back rather than closing tight<\/span><\/a> \u2013 a condition called prolapse. The prolapsed valve will cause a small amount of blood to leak backwards through the valve. <\/span><span class=\"s3\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Stenosis<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Valve stenosis is a condition where the valve opening becomes smaller, constricting blood flow and reducing heart function. This is due to the valve flaps becoming thick and stiff, or even fusing together.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Patients with heart valve abnormalities may not develop symptoms immediately, especially if their conditions are mild.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Over time, the condition may deteriorate and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthxchange.sg\/heart-lungs\/heart-disease\/heart-valve-disease-symptoms-treatment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s3\">symptoms will start to surface<\/span><\/a>. Some of the symptoms of heart valve disease include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Fatigue <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Light headedness<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Chest discomfort<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Shortness of breath<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Heart palpitations<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Nausea and loss of appetite<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Weight gain<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Swelling of ankles, feet, legs or abdomen<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart.org\/en\/health-topics\/heart-valve-problems-and-disease\/heart-valve-problems-and-causes\/problem-heart-valve-stenosis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Most heart valve conditions<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> can be treated with medication.
